It is a mistake to think of publicity supplanting the visual art of post-Renaissance Europe; it is the last moribund form of that art.
- John Berger

It’s Pronounced “GIF,” Not “GIF” is a reaction to the commodification of our online experiences and a liberation of unique digital objects once buried deep within our Instagram feeds and Tumblr dashboards. When emancipated from the iPhone screen, these digital artworks become active participants in our world, demanding attention and existing with purpose. Drawing upon contemporary Internet art while fragmenting the Western art canon, the exhibited artists disrupt traditional production practices resulting in a redefinition of the function of a .gif image, filtered through a lens of perverted capitalism.
